The USA is a hugely popular travel destination for pet owners, as there is so much to see and do. However, because it is such a big country, narrowing down where you want to visit can be challenging.

We have rounded up 5 of the most pet-friendly states in this blog, so you can choose the paw-fect holiday for you and your pet.

  1. Vermont

Vermont is great for pets and owners alike! It has so much green space to explore, so it’s the ideal place if you are a nature lover.

Dog Mountain is a must-visit if you choose Vermont when bringing your pet to the US. Located in St. Johnsbury, Dog Mountain features 150 acres of land on a private mountaintop, full of exciting trails and ponds to explore.

Your pet is free to roam around as leads are not required, and the grounds are always open. As they say themselves, “dogs are not just welcome here, they are cherished.”

Vermont is great for cats too, with plenty of pet-friendly accommodation options you can bring your feline friend along on your travels.

  1. Colorado

With 1.8 dog parks per 100,000 people, it’s no surprise that Colorado is considered one of the most pet-friendly states in the US.

If you choose to holiday in Colorado, make sure you pay a visit to the Great Sand Dunes National Park which has 30sq miles to explore and is one of the only national parks that allow pets. Pets must be kept on a lead at all times, and make sure the sand is not too hot for their paws before you go!

There are lots of pet-friendly hotels and accommodation options so you can find somewhere great to rest your head after a long day of exploring.

  1. Maine

Maine is a state that truly cares about animals, with lots of leading animal cruelty laws to protect them.

It’s a great place to visit with your pet, as there is plenty to see and do – including Willard Beach!

Willard Beach is a 4-acre dog beach in Maine that allows you to take your dog off the lead, as long as it remains under your control the whole time, so your pooch can run free and enjoy splashing in the cool sea!

  1. Arkansas

Named the most ‘dog-loving state’ by the American Medical Veterinary Association, Arkansas is certainly a pet-friendly state you can visit when taking pets abroad.

68% of Arkansas hiking trails are considered pet-friendly, so if long walkies are your thing you are in luck.

There are over 360 pet-friendly restaurants for those much-needed pit stops too –  so whether you prefer an adventurous or relaxing holiday you can bring your pet along and have the time of your lives!

  1. Oregon

Known for its picturesque scenery and hiking trails, Oregon is a great option for pet-friendly travel.

With 363 miles of public coastline, luscious green forests, and mountain lakes the great thing about Oregon is that you can bring your pet along for the adventure too.

You won’t struggle to find somewhere to stay when choosing Oregon for international pet travel, as there are numerous pet-friendly hotels, B&Bs and accommodation options for you to decide from.
